We all know that eating can be a great pleasure. We don't just eat to survive - food can mean security, it can mean comfort, it can mean love.

Food is vitally important to how your body feels and ultimately how you feel about yourself. Unfortunately some eating habits create health problems. This can be avoided. But like all behaviour, making changes to your eating habits can be hard at first - especially if you've developed some self-defeating attitudes. Talking with healthcare professionals can help you overcome your own barriers to good health.

This section covers a lot of the basics on how to make food choices that don't leave you feeling deprived. You can start by measuring your Body Mass Index to see where you stand. Then you can go on to read why a healthy diet matters. After than there's information and tips on how to achieve nutritional wellbeing and to keep that healthy feeling.

Your body will perform best if you give it these foods in this proportion:

Lots of: breads and cereals

Lots of: vegetables and fruit

Some: lean meats, poultry, fish and pulses

A little: dairy

Very little: fats, oils, butter, and margarine
